about cartacanta
Hola, ciao! I'm Fabiola
I'm a practising MFL teacher with over 10 years' experience teaching in UK secondary schools.
These are my resources. I started creating them after realising that, since qualifying, I was constantly breaking down tasks from official textbooks to make them work for my students. In my experience, and in my students' too, textbook tasks just aren't accessible. So I started building my own, with the aim of giving my students confidence. What makes me happiest is that students love them.
After trying the GCSE Spanish Tenses Masterclass with my Year 11, they asked for "more of this, please!" When I used the GCSE Core Vocabulary worksheet, they told me it was more useful than the textbook we'd been using all year, and asked why we weren't focusing on this instead.
What makes cartacanta different?
Students learn languages best when vocabulary is introduced clearly and revisited regularly.
Rather than asking students to produce language they haven't yet mastered, Cartacanta resources guide them through a carefully sequenced learning journey. Vocabulary is introduced, practised and revisited across multiple skills, including Quizlet list, retrieval practice, reading and listening, and more retrieval practice along the way, before students are expected to use it independently in speaking, writing and translations.
The resources are designed for teachers to have everything ready to teach: Quizlet list in a click (you don’t have to do this, I’ve done it for you!), listening audio linked to Soundcloud (no fidgeting between files), answers & transcripts both in the booklets & teacher’s presentation.
You'll also notice that many resources include AI extension activities. AI is already part of our students' lives, and I believe they should learn to use it responsibly - not to do the thinking for them, but to support independent practice, receive feedback and build confidence in the language.
My goal
I want to make language learning more accessible, more enjoyable and more successful.
I want students to feel confident before they feel challenged and to experience the satisfaction of making real progress. I also want to save teachers time by providing classroom-ready resources that have been designed with real students, real lessons and real teaching experience behind them.
After all...
Carta canta - the paper sings.
I hope these resources help your students enjoy learning languages as much as mine do.
Thank you for visiting, and I'd love to hear what you think.
Are you a Head of MFL?
I'm currently looking for a small number of departments to evaluate Cartacanta during its first year. If you're interested in exploring the resources with your department, I'd be delighted to provide a complimentary evaluation copy of Booklet 1 and the accompanying teacher PowerPoints.
